An Unexpected Benefit of the Emergency Fund

by John on May 10, 2010

We are now in the process of building up 6 month’s worth of expenses in an emergency fund. We have met half of that goal, and expect to reach a full six month’s worth of expenses shortly. During this process, I started to realize that there was a benefit of saving up money that I didn’t expect.

It might seem obvious to you, but until you’ve felt it, you might not know its true power.

That feeling is true FINANCIAL PEACE. I’ve heard Dave Ramsey talk about it, but I didn’t realize the level of comfort it brings to have a pile of money saved up in the bank.

It was an unexpected consequence of following Dave’s plan. That financial peace is so real now I can almost reach out and touch it.

Yes, you need an emergency fund because emergencies happen. But there’s another reason. That reason is simply to feel the peace of not having to WORRY about those potential emergencies. Of course, with an emergency fund, you’re not totally immune to financial disaster, but it sure helps!

Try an emergency fund, and your stress level will plummet. Throughout the process, keep your eyes on God and remember that God is ultimately in control. Emergency funds are powerful financial tools that keep you out of debt, lower stress, and help you cash flow emergencies as they arise. I highly recommend one!
