We’ve all seen it in advertising. There’s just something intriguing about an item or service costing $0.00 that compels us to take a closer look.
Who hates free stuff? “Free” is a word that you can’t argue with if the product is worth something to you. It’s the ultimate discount.
A number of prominent marketers have caught on to the idea that free sells! David Meerman Scott is one example. He started his business by giving away free information. Anyone who wants to start a successful business in a flash needs to read his material. Check him out!
As business people, we need to understand that “FREE” is a powerful term that will help sell side products and/or create customer longevity.
As consumers, we need to watch out for those business people! Take special notice of all the advertisements that catch your eye by using this four-letter word. Is the idea to actually give you something for free? Perhaps, but most likely not.
Personally, I’ve found myself being weary of things that are free. “Free” is many times a temptation to spend. If you create this reaction inside yourself, you will spend less money.
What are your thoughts on free things? Have you ever gotten something for free and noticed afterward that you have less cash in your wallet?
