3 Ways To Keep Creditors At Bay

by John on January 14, 2010

It’s a stressful situation. You just can’t seem to keep up with on the pile of bills sitting on your desk, and the creditors have started calling every day. Here are a few tips on how to handle creditors if they are out of line.

  1. Keep control by telling them how often and when they can call. That’s right! Stay in control! Yes, you owe them money, but that doesn’t give them the right to interrupt your life every 10 minutes. Say what you feel comfortable with. If you think you can handle talking with them once a week, go right ahead. I wouldn’t recommend going over every two weeks, but that’s up to you. The point is that you need to have control over the situation and not let them emotionally drain you.
  2. Create a reasonable plan to get out of debt and present it to them. You need to pay those you owe, so create a plan that is doable yet aggressive. The faster you can pay them off the better. Prioritize the creditors by their power to change your life. If you owe the IRS, put them at the top of your list. If you owe Macy’s, I think they can wait until you pay any government organizations who have nearly unlimited power.
  3. Give yourself some time to pray and meditate on the blessings in your life. God can help you in this time of need. You need to give yourself some breathing room to focus on your attitudes. Don’t let yourself get out of control. Remember God is with you through this process.

By focusing on these three simple ways to keep creditors at bay, you’ll come out of the storm in no time. Just focus, pray, and get intense about paying off your debt. You can do it.
