3 Tips for Landing That New Job Fast!

Perhaps you’re out of work due to budget cuts. Maybe you’re tired of the monotonous job you took 10 years ago to pay the bills. Whatever the situation, there is hope. Work can be found if sought, but you need the right strategy to do it fast.

I’m no stranger to being out of work. I understand how difficult it can be to gain the courage to explore new job markets and “put yourself out there.” Here are a few things I did to expedite the process while getting a job I enjoyed.

  1. Differentiate between your skills and your passions. You’re going to have to do some soul searching when you seek out a new job. It is important to recognize the difference between a job you are good at and a job that you love. They are not always the same thing. Are you looking for a job to just to make ends meet, or are you looking for something you can enjoy doing for a lifetime? Make two lists: one list with jobs you’d be good at and one list with jobs you’d enjoy (if you could be trained). See if any of these jobs overlap, and then take the next step!
  2. Deploy the applications! Deploy the resumes! Focus in on those occupations that would utilize your skills and you’d actually enjoy doing. Put them at the top of your list, and then rapid-fire those applications into the marketplace. When you go to a business to apply, make sure you dress similar to the employees working (when appropriate). MEET MANAGEMENT. Don’t just hand your application to anyone. And be sure to include your revamped resume. This will show you go above and beyond just meeting the standard application requirements.
  3. Follow up on your applications IN PERSON IF POSSIBLE. People remember faces and names. Connect with the employees of the workplace and ensure everyone knows who you are. Then, when the management attempts to find someone to fill a position, they will think of you FIRST!

Don’t be discouraged. You can do it. Don’t forget to seek the Lord’s will throughout the process. God will not steer you wrong. Follow these three important tips and you’ll be well on your way to landing that new job - FAST!
